When Innovation Gets Throttled by Trends: A Message from a Builder

86 Views 0 Liked

In the past week, GPU usage across AI platforms has spiked dramatically. Why? Viral trends. Ghibli-style selfies. Meme generators. Anime filters. All fun—until they block builders from accessing the very tools we rely on to build real solutions.

As a founder developing platforms like **Fitgate** (AI-powered fitness and nutrition), **diLeopard** (digital legacy systems), and **Leopard.ly** (education and personal development tools), my team and I depend heavily on OpenAI’s tools—especially GPT-4 and DALL·E—for product features, customer logic, and content generation.

But now, our workflow is throttled.

We aren’t just experimenting. We’re building. We have users waiting on updates. We have trainers, clients, and learners depending on the content we’re supposed to generate. And while we wait, GPUs are being maxed out on cartoon filters that disappear as quickly as they go viral.

I get it—curiosity is good. Creativity is good. But **platforms like OpenAI need to set sustainable boundaries** that protect long-term builders. Because while the meme disappears in a day, our work is meant to last.

### What We’re Asking For

We’re not asking for VIP access or special treatment.

We’re asking for logic:

- Prioritized GPU bandwidth for production-based use cases.

- Developer-focused lanes or tiered API access that recognize platform building vs. trend riding.

- Transparency when usage spikes impact access—so we can plan releases responsibly.

We believe in OpenAI’s mission. But we also believe the tools should serve **builders**, not just buzz.

To my fellow developers feeling the same pain—you’re not alone. Let’s keep building. Let’s keep pushing. Let’s remind everyone what these tools were really made for.
